  • Review software interface on how to navigate the software effectively.
  • Review Study Options to learn how they affect study results.
  • Learn how to interpret study results.
  • Learn efficient management and use of Libraries.
  • Review reporting options and customized output Forms.

Prerequisites:

  • 101 Intro 1 to SKM Power*Tools 3-Day Training or Basic working knowledge of the SKM PTW Software
  • Basic computer skills

Course Description:

This course focuses on 4 areas of the software where the analysis is becoming more commonplace in the power industry and to help power engineers be more efficient with the Power*Tools software. Students will earn 1.6 CEUs for this course.

 
 

TMS:

  • Review Solution Methodology.
  • Review Solution Methodology.
  • Review Motor Models.
  • Review Load Models.
  • Soft Starter and Reduced Voltage Starting Models.
  • Input Data Requirements.
  • Output Text and Graphical Data Overview.

I*SIM:

  • Review of software interface.
  • Simulate various dynamic responses to power system disturbances.
  • Input Data Requirements.
  • Building custom control block diagrams.
  • Output Text and Graphical Data Overview

HI_WAVE:

  • Class example to help gain a basic understanding of how to perform a harmonic analysis.
  • Interpretation of Equipment datasheets.
  • Data gathering, data input and system modeling.
  • Examination and interpretation of PTW study results and potential problem areas in the power system.

GroundMat:

  • Review basics concepts on why and how to ground.
  • Review input data and design wizard capabilities.
  • Calculating step and touch potentials for a reliable and efficient grounding grid.
  • Evaluate alternatives quickly and easily to establish an optimal design.
   
 
 

Target Audience:

This course is intended for electric power engineers responsible for the design and analysis of three phase and DC electrical distribution systems. No previous electrical distribution system analysis experience is required.

SKM will provide the latest version of the PTW software prior to the class for installation. License key will be provided the week before the course.
Course Location Web-Based Live Training - This online training will be conducted live by a senior SKM engineer and other SKM engineers will be available via chat or phone to assist with questions.  The same level of instruction, content, and practice projects will still be covered as we normally do. Software activation details will be provided as we get closer to the class.  A hardcopy training manual will be shipped about 10 days before the first day of class. Student within the continental US qualify for free shipping (UPS) of the hardcopy student manual. Students outside of the US are responsible for delivery fees and duties and/or customs fees.

Live online training will be conducted using the GoToTraining platform. We recommend using a Chrome browser for the instant join feature without having to download and install extra software. Consider a dual-monitor setup so that you can view the instructor’s screen while performing hands-on exercises. Alternatively, you can join the meeting on a tablet using GoToTraining’s app or use another computer next to you.
